Orange dot in menu bar

I have a orange dot in theme bar on the far right. I know when there is a orange dot next to the control center it means an app used your mic recently. In my case control center does not show any use of my mic and I did not use my mic knowing.

Any idea what else I can check?

It seems that people report a slightly different location for the orange dot when using different applications. But online forums for Google Meet seem to show screenshots just like yours. Some people want to remove the orange dot but sometimes it persists even after the microphone has been turned off or disabled. It seems to still be there because the app has communicated to the MacOS that it is "microphone ready" even when the microphone is actually off or disabled. Some people are quite upset with the dot, most simply ignore it.

I am not upset with it, just noticed it in that location for the first time. I also haven't used Meet for 24 hours. I just restarted and tested it and the dot came back and remained in the weird location. Restarted again and tested with FaceTime and the dot is net to control center and goes away shortly after closing it.

I think some vendors do not interface 100% properly with the MacOS and hence in some cases the orange dot persists when in fact it should not still be there, or it might be placed in a different location. FaceTime does it properly because Apple wrote that one itself!

I use Webex for such "meetings" and the orange dot is there even when I am not actively in a Webex meeting. But Webex has plugins that run in the background linked in to Jabber and MS-Exchange, and when those are on the orange dot is there because the microphone is "ready" even if not being actively used.

Personally I think the orange dot should go away when the meeting is concluded. But some vendors implement it imperfectly or don't handle the interface properly.
