Can't sign into iTunes store

I have family sharing set up. My daughter has an old iPhone which we've reconfigured to be associated with her Apple ID. One app (YouTube) needs to be updated. When we try to update, it prompts to "Sign in to the iTunes store", NOT the app store where she's already logged in. It asks for a password, but doesn't say for which account (hers, mine as the family admin, or my wife who used to own the phone). I've entered all passwords but none work. We reset her iCloud password and it still doesn't work. I've opened up the iTunes store but nowhere does it say which account the device is signed into iTunes with or offer a way to change it.

Hello thewocky,

To troubleshoot the behavior, test after deleting and re-downloading the app. When re-downloading the app from the App Store, it will download the most updated version available. See those steps here:

Remove apps from iPhone - Apple Support

"Remove apps

Do any of the following:

  • Remove an app from the Home Screen: Touch and hold the app on the Home Screen, tap Remove App, then tap Remove from Home Screen to keep it in App Library, or tap Delete App to delete it from iPhone.
  • Delete an app from App Library and Home Screen: Touch and hold the app in App Library, tap Delete App, then tap Delete. (See Find your apps in App Library.)

If you change your mind, you can redownload apps you’ve removed."

To access the iTunes Store sign in, on your daughter's iPhone, (depending on the version of iOS installed) please navigate to Settings > [Her Name] > iTunes & App Store. You will see the Apple ID used to sign into iTunes & App Store.

Let us know if that helps.

Kind regards.
