So I landed in India on 28th morning and the first thing I did out of sheer curiosity is to connect my apple watch ultra bought in US with my Airtel mobile data and it WORKED......

Since I already had an apple watch series 4 earlier which was latched to the same mobile data plan so, so the watch gave an alert to call Airtel customer care to detach the older watch and then repair the new one with the standard steps using my iphone's apple watch app. So far its working like a charm. :) Hope you get the answer!!!

No. Any apple product bought in USA which has an esim or needs a cellular network has warranty covered in that particular country from where it is bought. I confirmed that from apple customer care in india and it is also mentioned in their warranty page on website. This is because the USA watch or iphone may have different model number/ construction than the one sold in india due to cellular bands etc. So you may not get warranty for any cellular apple watch or iphone from USA in india but regular apple watch without esim (Bluetooth only models) or an ipad ( bluetooth only models) from USA is definitely having global warranty and is covered globally.

No u dont have to. I got the same model from US apple store and i have a physical sim on iPhone 12 with no e sim. Only one number on physical sim. Thats Airtel. It worked perfectly. And i used the same in Mumbai Maharashtra as well in airtel roaming and it worked well. It just supports all the bands needed by Airtel and Jio in india. Their tech team may confuse you as they also sell Indian apple watches which are costly. For some one not working may be an isolated case with previous watch not removed or some other technical issue. But it worked for me and many others.

Yes, sure. First i have a physical postpaid sim with a 699 Rs plan from Airtel. Apple watches cellular usually work on post paid sims.

i had an apple watch 6 bought in india already paired with my iphone 12 on that number. So i went to my watch app and went to mobile data and clicked i next to Airtel and clicked remove airtel plan. Then i called 121 to get the plan removed from my watch from backend of airtel as well. Then unpaired that watch and booted the apple watch ultra and paired with my iPhone 12. It automatically while setting up manually as a new watch, without restoring backup, asked me to set up the data plan of my phone which is Airtel. I continued to click next and it was automatic from there until the watch was set up.

It should technically, provided you have the postpaid cellular plan from Jio or Airtel. I have seen that most of the cellular bands are supported in India on Jio and Airtel. However this apple watch cellular support is limited to postpaid customers in most of the cellular circles in India. So better call you region's customer support and check if your provider supports apple watch LTE.

Also, if you ask them questions like - will your watch work if you get it from US, then their default answer would be either NO or DONT KNOW. :)

Also, see the link below - All the cellular bands are same for series 8 what they have provided for Ultra series. Technically it should work -

Apple Watch - Carriers - Apple (IN)

Apple Watch Ultra

  • Model A2622

and

Apple Watch Series 8

  • Model A2772 (41 mm)
  • Model A2774 (45 mm)

Support same LTE Band. So technically I can say -  it should work without hesitation.

dont worry - it will work - Airtel and Jio has a seamless connectivity with it. Network drop is not the issue of the watch ... it is the coverage issue of the carriers and that can happen anywhere in the globe..

The best part of the bringing these apple watches(Now Ultra and watch series 7/8) and cellphones (Iphones) from US is - they come with extended support for more frequency bands than the usual what is sold in India.

if u have a Jio physical sim in ur ip then u can activate cellular in iwatch by ur self u dont have to visit Jio office. In ip open Watch app n then go to data r cellular then I think it redirect to Jio site there u enter ur Jio no n creat a password n accept r give ok. Then u done data in Watch will get activated wit in few minutes that’s how I did today. I don’t know about family setup.

They told me that i have to convert to eSIM first & then when we will support in future. 🥴 , i asked to VI & airtel they told that we support ultra watch but u have to convert it into eSIM postpaid plan that starts frm 399 +18%gst

Hey folks, I’m planning to buy watch ultra2 from US and not sure whether cellular will work here in India with airtel postpaid. Is anybody using ultra2 with airtel postpaid and can confirm, if it works?

There are a lot of individual in India that have used a U.S. Apple Watch in India.

However, it is up to the carrier as to whether or not they want to support the Apple Watch (apparently most accept it, but they still have the option).

The warranty will be U.S. specific, so if you have any warranty repair issues, you would have to return to the U.S. for the repair, or pay for the repair out of your own pocket.

And why the Apple Watch sold in the U.S. is the same model as sold in India, the firmware is different, so it is very possible to know where the Apple Watch was purchased.
