I have turned off follow up suggestions in my Apple email settings but they are still showing up on my iPhone

I have turned off follow up suggestions in my Apple email settings, but it is always showing up the suggestions at the top. Very annoying!

Any ideas as how to turn this off?

Thank you.

Howdy Alberto2367,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities!

We understand you mentioned turning off the setting, but still seeing a suggestion to follow up on emails in the app, right?

We'd first recommend confirming you have iOS 16.0.2 installed on your iPhone to make sure you're on the latest iOS version. If an update is available, be sure to create a backup of your information prior to installing the update. For assistance with either of these steps, check out the following resource: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If you're up-to-date, confirm you've turned off the following setting for us. We want to confirm nothing is overlooked, and you can find this info here: Reply to and forward emails in Mail on iPhone - Apple Support

Follow up on emails

If you send a message and don’t receive a response for several days, the email automatically moves back to the top of your inbox to help you remember to follow up.

Go to Settings  > Mail, then turn Follow Up Suggestions on or off.

If you still see the suggestions appear, confirm that you're not in the Follow Up Mailbox for us on your iPhone.

Have a great day!

I’m not definite - but hopeful / that have found the solution!

I had it turned off on my iPhone but have still been getting them since the feature was introduced.

It occurred to me this morning that I never remembered, turning them off on my iPad… And I was right.

It was still on on my iPad. I have turned that off now, and I am hoping that the problem will stop on all devices.

I can confirm that everybody in this thread has done these things. It's ridiculous to ask us if we have adjusted the settings properly. The whole point of the complaints in this thread is that adjusting the settings *doesn't work*. That is true for me; it is true for thousands and thousands of other people. It's a known problem at Apple when you call Applecare. This is not a result of consumer error. It's a known bug. Please don't waste our time asking us to check if we have an up-to-date iOS. That is not the problem.

I have the same problem, and on my iPad Settings/Mail/Follow Up Suggestions was turned off, but when I checked my iPhone I saw it was on. I've just now turned it off on the iPhone. Possibly that's the problem - that it must be turned off on all ios devices? If it's on on any device then it follows up, and you see it on all devices. Just a theory. We'll see...

The same thing is happening to me, I’ve turned off Follow Up Suggestions, but throughout the day these emails keep re-appearing in my mail. After a minute or two they disappear again, it seems like when mail is refreshed they are brought back in and then a short while later the setting is checked again and re-applied and they are hidden. Then it repeats the cycle again later in the day.

Yes, I’ve done the same. However, my sense is that each time there is an update the setting defaults back to follow up automatically being on. I also have an older MacBook Pro, which is not giving me the option to upgrade to the latest OS, and on my Mail settings on the MBP, there is not even an option referencing turning follow up off or on in Mail, so that could be the problem as well.
