I have turned off follow up suggestions in my Apple email settings but they are still showing up on my iPhone

I have turned off follow up suggestions in my Apple email settings, but it is always showing up the suggestions at the top. Very annoying!

Any ideas as how to turn this off?

Thank you.

This is one of the most annoying broken features ever. Has been constantly happening to me for a couple months now, even with the feature clearly turned off.

Sometimes I can go in and find the message that it’s marked and remove the follow-up suggestion, but about 25% of the time there IS no message with a follow up suggestion, it’s just randomly pushed the thread to the top of the list and the only way I can see it in it’s true date context is by going directly to the relevant Inbox, instead of All Inboxes.

Apparently if you use a question mark (?) anywhere in your email, apple automatically thinks that email needs a followup, even when you have turned off followup. that’s probably why it seems random. Idk why apple chose to hard code their opinion about one’s use of a question mark. Does apple not understand that sometimes when I use a question mark I am NOT awaiting a response?! I might use a question mark to make a point. It might not be a Q & A email, where I’m waiting for the Answers. I might just be saying something rhetorical. Or I might ask a question and then my next sentence answers it.

Is there some way other than switching to Outlook???

I've tried all these things and no LOVE...

I love apple products...when they change things, I go along and try them thinking that apple developers often know best. But when they make silly changes just to be different, we should have a simple way to turn the stupid (disliked) features OFF!

what should our next step be to rid ourselves of this cursed FollowUp "feature" / bug / mistake?

Sadly it looks like this is an issue and I’ve already been on with Apple who either do not understand the feature, or refuse to help. I have it turned off on both iPad and iPhone, have toggled on & off per their suggestion (I know, I know… stupid but they insisted), I’m up to date on iOS, I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled on both (yes, really annoying setting up all my email accounts again) and I’ve restarted my machines. Gmail nudge is turned off (and it doesn’t happen in the gmail app so I know it’s apple). I’m posting here in the vague hope that someone will find a solution but with zero hope that apple will actually retake note and deliver some actual customer service! (They have a chat function that knows nothing, and refuse to communicate on chat or email with anyone who knows anything… calling themself a tech and/or communications company is a joke! I’m sure we all agree!).

Apple support has become a joke

WHAT is a “follow up mailbox” that they tell to be sure you are not in? And what is the radio bottom mentioned?

I’ve bought every release of iPhone from day one. This breakdown is the final straw for me. I don’t know what phone to get but my next tablet will be a surface and I’m switching to outlook as a start toward moving back to Microsoft

I just don’t see why stupid unnecessary new “features” can’t be optional …

This is very unhelpful.

Almost everyone who has commented has already confirmed that their iOS is up to date and follow up suggestions is turned off. The reply to / forward email link is irrelevant. No one has a follow up inbox, and I think it’s fair to say we are all complaining about getting this feature in our regular inbox.

I appreciate you are “community” and not Apple. I have no idea what that means but your suggestions don’t help. I’d suggest if you have any ability to do so you contact Apple and ask them to fix this broken feature as we have all done that to no avail.
