Disk Space Recovery Error?

I can't get my system to update to macOS Monterey 12.6. It tells me to authenticate user and when I plug in the password, the window shakes. I've tried to install from safe mode. I've run first aid. Then I went to reinstall the OS from start-up, and I'm getting "Operation couldn't be completed. com.apple.diskspacerecovery error -1". I have enough space available on my computer for the install. Is the only option left for me to wipe the computer and start over? (Please no?)
