I am a delivery driver (Uber Eats) and I am experiencing a problem where the Uber Driver app sometimes will not play alert sounds through the AirPods Pro. Sometimes it does. It’s a crap shoot. Additionally, sometimes the app is just too quiet playing alerts through the phone speaker, so I think to myself that I must have accidentally turned the phone volume down, but no, it’s at full or almost full volume. Then later, it’s back to normal. Furthermore, the volume on streaming apps like Xfinity Stream is way too loud, so I have to turn down the entire phone because I can’t just turn down that specific app, and then I don’t hear alert sounds. I have also had many text messages arrive and not play any alert (with the phone volume set high), so 20 minutes later I notice I missed a message, sometimes time sensitive. The issue with the Uber Driver app alerts literally costs me money.
Why doesn’t iOS allow me to set (and also lock) volume levels for specific apps?
Here’s another use case: I am talking to my friend using the AirPods, I want to watch a streamed sporting event on the screen while we talk, but the volume of the game is louder than the phone call. I can’t mute or adjust the audio of the game, and turning the volume down turns down both.
It’s astounding that there isn’t a page in settings or Control Center that would show you which apps are sending audio, and have sliders for those apps to control each individually. And like I said before, I rely on the alert sound for my living, so I want to lock the volume level for that app so I won’t miss an offer.
