Laggy external Webcam 2020 MacBook Air

Hello everyone,

I have bought a 2020 MacBook Air with M1 Chip, 16GB RAM and 500Gb of storage in 2021. I now noticed that if I connect an external webcam to my Mac my video is super laggy and buggy when using something like Skype. To the point where you don't want to use it. When I then open the Facetime app at the same time as Skype something seems to reset and the webcam functions normally. When the camera is turned off and on again, the same problem appears again.

Does somebody experience the same behaviour and do you know how to fix it?
