Bought the 13 Pro Max in January 2022. Checked the battery health today and charging capacity is 98%. My wife bought the iPhone 13 at the same time and her capacity in battery health is 100%.
Given the age of my new phone and my wife’s purchase at the same time, not happy. I also bought Apple Care at the same time for the Pro Max but it never occurred to me I might need it so soon.

You should expect Battery Health to decline on average about 1% a month. That's an average. Some months it may not decline at all and then suddenly drop 2-3%. This is normal.
If you purchased the Phone in January, then the Maximum Capacity should be about 92-93% at this time. If your phone is at 98%, that is exceptionally good performance. If your wife's phone is still at 100%, that is nothing short of amazing. I would expect it to drop by 4-6% soon to come closer to the averages.
I also purchased a phone in January and after almost nine months, it is right on average at 91%.
You should send flowers to Apple as soon as possible for your exceptionally good luck with your batteries.

There is nothing wrong with your battery. Batteries will degrade with use. Some faster than others. When it gets to 80% or less, get a new one.
Bearing in mind the amount of money I paid and the relative newness I am not impressed with that response. Yes, I do appreciate batteries degrade over time which I experienced with my previous 6 S but less than a year? My 6 S had better battery performance in its first year.
