Question mark in place of photos

I am still having the same problem with the question mark. Apple's response has been less than adequate. Also in place of some of the photos it says tap to download but when I do it does nothing. Any suggestions. Is this a problem because my ICloud storage on my phone is full and I have not subscribed to the ICloud to increase my storage. Is this Apple's way of getting me to subscribe?

iPhone 7, iOS 15

Hi silverfox131,

Could be influenced by the iCloud storage issue:

You might want to put old (or new) photos, videos, or files on an external storage device, or computer,

and access them that way.

Re: Is this Apple's way of getting me to subscribe?

Doesn't seem likely. (We are all Apple users, like yourself in this community, (not paid by Apple), or Apple itself.

Also: Apple provides articles on how to manage the storage space you have subscribed to, so that more isn't needed.

Seems others (without iCloud issues) have had similar problems. with question marks instead of photos (often in Messages)

Wondering in which app you are seeing the question marks instead of photos. (eg: Messages, Photos, or in texts etc.)

and, are the photos viewable elsewhere in Photos app (eg: "Shared with you" / " Recents" / "Library" /

Sometimes photos may shows a question mark if the photo-format (eg heic, tiff, psd, rather tha .jpg) is not compatible.

Also photos that have been altered (eg: on computer) may show as question marks on iPhone.

Otherwise: some of the simplest things that seem to have worked for others:

Eg: Quit app (eg: Photos,) turn iPhone off, turn iPhone on, Open app (eg: Photos) and check if you can see the Photos now.

Another: Update to latest iOS and check you are properly connected to wi-fi. Check if the photos are now visible.

Others have tried backing up everything first, and then reinstalling their data from an earlier back-up, with some success.

Some seem to say just being patient and waiting eventually sees the return of the ? photos.

All the best :-)
