cant set up gmail on iphone 14 pro

I got a new iphone 14 pro and have been trying to set up my gmail account. When the process shifts to Safari to sign into Google, I enter my google ID and try to hit the Next button... but the button doesn't respond. One time I got an error message that my "request was malformed"... whatever that means. Searching around I see things like clearing web data on Safari (did it) or disabling an experimental feature "request callback" or something... (did that too), shut down and restart (did that). I can't believe I am the only fool that has this problem. Had iphones and IOS for years and have never run into this before. Any ideas?

Hi jwb1723,

Are you able to add other email accounts to your device? It may be possible that your email account is using a secondary form of verification for security, much like the Two Factor Authentication offered for iCloud accounts. Have you checked to see if that is the case?
