iPhone 14.. ios 16.02 .. System Data storage

There is clearly an IOS 16 problem. I upgraded 3 days ago from iPhone 8 to brand new iPhone 14 .. from 64g to 128g .. not once did my iPhone 8 ever run out of space. I have to shut down the iphone 14 at least 4-5 times a day because system data gobbles all the space .. 97g of space! I've turned off background refresh, enabled app offloading, manually offloaded a bunch of apps. I use facebook, iMessage, safari, twitter and AP news app.

If Apple doesn't have a solution to this issue then I'll have to return it because this is ridiculous and unacceptable.

Performing a backup after just instigating a new phone FROM a backup is not clever.

Anyone (like me) with heaps of apps and masses of photos knows this is not a quick or simple task. Also, if you're upgrading from an iPhone 13, getting your hands on the new iPhone 14 shows how tiny are the incremental differences. I reckon a lot of people will be sending them back unless there is a better way to resolve this problem.

Sister was just here and she had the same problem on her iPhone SE. But she dropped it and cracked the screen and bough a new phone. When she did the Quick Setup and transferred all of her data the problem went away (she hadn't updated to iOS 16 on the SE). You can replicate this by doing a backup of your phone then restoring your iPhone from that backup.

Check macrumors, there are many iPhone 14 users with this problem. Apple support says something to do with iCloud and need to stay connected to Wi-Fi and plugged in power for up to 72 hours but this does not work . Most people find that his does not occur if Wi-Fi is turned off. Many found that if music and Apple TV app is deleted, it resolved the issue. Most have reinstalled music and Apple TV, and seems to be ok after reinstall. (Including me)

I deleted Facebook and Twitter .. problem solved.. and oddly have been so much more productive 😁

for sure apps are responsible for using system data to swap data in/out, possibly a common threshold variable changed? .. i will reiterate it's an iOS problem if the iOS is allowing any app to gobble system data without a base threshold and never releasing it until a forced powerdown/reboot
