Apple Pencil 2nd Gen killing iPad Mini 6 battery overnight. 50%-80% charge lost after just 18 hours.
I love my iPad Mini 6, the battery is fantastic, until you add the Gen 2 Apple Pencil. The Pencil can be at 100% battery and it still drains the iPads battery significantly. I noticed this a while back but it has only gotten worse with subsequent updates to the iPad OS.
This seriously needs to be looked into. I charged my iPad up to 100% yesterday. Last night before bed I docked the Apple Pencil on the side of the iPad Mini 6, and when I got home from work at 2pm today the iPads battery was at 12%. The Apple Pencil is at 100%. I kept my iPad in its folio case with the flap closed so the screen wouldn’t turn on and it still managed to completely drain the battery. This is absurd. How can a fully charged Apple Pencil deplete the battery that fast. Apple needs to implement some sort of shutdown for the Pencil. When the Pencil is docked it should only trickle charge when needed and completely turn off Bluetooth communication with the iPad until it is undocked.
With hundreds of complaints here in the Apple discussion forums, it seems like it is a known issue. This can’t be fixed via firmware update for the Apple Pencil? How is this still an issue a full year later? I know Apple sold a literal ton of Mini 6’s and Apple Pencils.
Apple if you see this thread or any of the others, please fix this issue. I’m glad my travel plans got moved to another day or I’d be on the road with a dead iPad Mini, and a fully charged Apple Pencil.
