Internet not working, have to switch source

I have had an issue with my phone for a while now.

It will periodically not load anything from the internet. The things in question are normally tiny data sizes in the realm of a couple of KB ( email or an Instagram post )

The way I fix it is by turning off or turning on wifi!

I have 200+Gb internet at home and 4g mobile data. Both of which should be fine, yet I have to do this switching method to get it working quite often. The problem doesn’t appear to be any of the internet sources as it happens on both.

Additionally, my phone seems to have secretly not been connected or time slicing which then results in a bulk of apps giving push notifications all at once, yet timestamp on a message for example would be 15 minutes ago!

sometimes I know someone has sent me a message but it doesnt give me a notification, then if I open whatsapp it suddenly shows me the message being received despite it being sent 10 min or more before.

my phone is a iphone SE second gen

IOS 15.7

background app refresh is turned on for all apps

And there is 40GB+ free storage space.

anyone seen this before or can help diagnose/fix.

it is super annoying because with ios there is no diagnostic tools I can look at

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities, Drummy1,

We see that you are having an intermittent issue with both Wi-Fi and cellular data occasionally not loading items on the internet. If you use a VPN, it could be causing an issue. Our first recommendation in that instance would be to disable (or completely remove, if possible) the VPN and see if the issues continue.

If the issue continues after that, or you're not using a VPN, we would recommend taking the following steps to help isolate the issue further:

  1. Close all apps on your device: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support and restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
  2. Reset your network settings under Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will remove all previously saved Wi-Fi connections, as well as any VPN or APN settings, but will not remove any of your personal data.
  3. Check for, and install, any available carrier settings updates, which will help your phone connect to your carrier's network: Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Don't hesitate to respond back if the issues persist.
