My watch S1 cannot connect to my 14 pro max while paring its saying to update watch when it searches for the watch update it asks for the iPhone to be updated first but iPhone is on the latest version of iOS 16.0.2

iPhone 6 watch I just received my Apple 6 watch but having issues connecting to my iPhone X with iOS13.5.1. iPhone Out of Date is what it keeps telling me. Im not showing any available updates to put on my phone so Im not sure why the new watch isn't connecting??
