AirPods Pro 2 always connected ?

Hi people

I just received my AirPods Pro 2nd Gen and they sounds super but i have one question.

My old AirPods Pro 1st Gen they where connection and disconnecting in the bluetooth menu on my iPhone instantaneously when using or not using them but the new AirPods Pro 2nd Gen is different.

They are connected in the bluetooth menu and in the system presences iOS 16.0.2 for a long time even after they are back in the case ? Is that a new feature or just mine doing something wrong ?

So what i mean is. They are still connected to the iPhone even when they are back in the AirPods Pro case for a couple of minutes. My old Gen 1 was disconnected instantaneously when put back in the case.

Thanks. Please let me know if it's normal or only mine 👍🏻

Same here. AirPod pro 2 always shows in battery widget. That means always connected to iPhone when it’s in case.

Hello sjogren,

I have the same problem here. The suggested fix doesn't help at all. You're not alone.

The battery of the case is also draining very fast due to it is always connected to the iPhone. Turning on Bluetooth LE (low energy) helps to fix the battery drain of the case in my opinion.

I just installed iOS 16.0.3 and the bug seems to still exist, even after the Update. I think Apple has to provide an Update either for the Airpods Pro 2nd Gen. itself or the iOS Software.

The same problem exists even after update to iOS16.1, and resetting AirPods pro 2. In the settings > bluetooth menu, it shows disconnected, however from drop down control center menu when i hold on bluetooth icon it shows i was connected to AirPods pro 2 while keeping pods in the case. Even the battery icon shows it’s connected and the battery is draining from the case and is constantly connected.

Finally i have figured it out the issue. This is caused by Pro 2 is trying to keep alive its whereabouts to apple Find My network hence it uses UWB chip inside its case. For a temporary fix, If you want to get rid of this issue but keep in mind it will lost from Find My.

goto Settings > AirPods > Find My network > turn off

Waiting for a permanent fix from apple.

Have a nice day

I have this same issue. I found it by trying to figure out why I keep having issues with my music cutting in and out when I’m in my car. Even if I’m not using bluetooth for my car and using aux, I still have an issue of music cutting out.

I noticed my AirPods 2 are always connected. Could this be why my music is cutting out? Maybe it’s playing over the car Bluetooth but then glitches quickly to the AirPods 2 then back? I don’t know. I’m troubleshooting and trying to find the culprit. With every update I’m hoping it’s fixed but so far, as you all know, nothing. Apple, fix this please!!!

Hello sjogren,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with your AIrPods staying connected for longer than expected. Try resetting them as described here to see if that resolves the issue: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

"You might need to reset your AirPods if they won't charge, or to fix a different issue.

  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case.
  4. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth, or Settings > [your AirPods], and tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods. If you don't see your AirPods in Settings > Bluetooth or in Settings > [your AirPods], just go to the next step.
  5. Tap Forget This Device, and tap again to confirm.
  6. With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*
  7. AirPods charging cases
  8. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Follow the steps on your device's screen."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
