AirPods pro disconnect from iPhone XR but no problem with other phones/ipad

Hello,

I have a problem with AirPods pro (model A2084 , version 5E135, case 1.3.9) and iPhone XR ( iOS 16.5.1):

the AirPods pair correctly to the iPhone, but as soon as they are taken out of the case they lose the connection.

To connect again we have to forget them and pair them again. but still it does not work. we restarted also the phone and forgot etc...

Same AirPods have no problem connecting to various iPads and an iPhone 11 all with iOS 16.5.1

My impression is that the problem is on the iPhone side. What else can we check to see what is going on ?

Thanks for any idea of what to look for

Hello pat015,

If you haven't tried it yet, attempting to connect a different pair of headphones or another Bluetooth accessory to the same iPhone can help to further isolate the issue down.

If the iPhone has a case on it try removing that temporarily to help rule out any conflicts from that.

This page can help as well to provide steps for issues with the AirPods not connecting: If your AirPods won't connect - Apple Support

If you can't connect to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. Make sure that your iPhone or iPod touch has the latest version of iOS or that your iPad has the latest version of iPadOS.
2. Put both AirPods in the charging case and make sure that both AirPods are charging.
3. To make sure that Bluetooth is on, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
4. If your AirPods are connected, make sure that they're selected as your audio device. If your AirPods appear in the list of devices but they don't connect, go to the next step.
5. Close the lid, wait 15 seconds, then open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the charging case for up to 10 seconds. The status light on the front of the charging case should flash white, which means that your AirPods are ready to connect.

6. Hold the charging case, with your AirPods inside and the lid open, next to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
7. Follow the steps on the screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
8. Test your AirPods. If you still can't connect, reset your AirPods.

Cheers.
