AirPods Pro won’t reconnect to iPhone after using with iPad

I disconnected my airpods pro from my iphone 14 pro max to connect them to my new ipad air 2025, they worked perfectly, then later this evening i wanted to connect them back to my phone, it gave me the option twice to connect and when i clicked it, it said connection unsuccessful make sure your device on and ready to connect. i went ahead and followed the troubleshooting instructions, held the back button until it flashed white, didn’t work, held the black button until it flashed amber and didn’t work. whenever i open my airpods case the light just stays green and i can’t connect them or get the option to. my phone is fully updated someone please help i am only a student and can’t afford to take them into apple!!!
