iMessage contacts not syncing between Macbook Pro and iCloud gmail

I was trying for weeks to get my MacBook Pro Monterey 12.6 and my iMessages to sync the contacts. I could not figure it out. My other Macs and iphones all were fine. This is a new Mac and this is why. Thanks to Apple support - I just fixed it. My contacts was using my Gmail as my default account. I didnt realize this. I just went onto my Mac> select contacts app. Add Gmail account. Select as the default acct under preferences. BOOM done.
