You cannot update hardware unless you purchase a new iPhone. But here are instructions on updating the software/iOS.

You can try to update the iOS on your iPhone by opening Settings > General > Software Update. If your iPhone is eligible for an update, you will see a button to do so. If not, then your iPhone is at the highest iOS the hardware will allow. You don’t mention which iPhone you have so here are the limits on the various iPhones.
