Extended display resolution and scaling keep changing including display settings UI

iMac 24-inch, M1, 2021 - Monterey 12.6 with MSI MAG274QRF-QD Display (extended)

Weird behavior lately using my extended display. Not only does the resolution keep changing from default to scaled sizes, the display settings interface keeps changing from show scaled resolutions to just show text boxes of various sizes to choose from (see attachment). What is going on?

and this also shows at other times:

 Displays:

iMac:

  Display Type: Built-In Retina LCD

  Resolution: Retina 4.5K (4480 x 2520)

  Main Display: Yes

  Mirror: Off

  Online: Yes

  Automatically Adjust Brightness: No

  Connection Type: Internal

MAG274QRF-QD:

  Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (2160p/4K UHD 1 - Ultra High Definition)

  UI Looks like: 3840 x 2160 @ 60.00Hz

  Mirror: Off

  Online: Yes

  Rotation: Supported

Hi jefbak,

Let's help to narrow this down and isolate it more by testing in safe mode and another user account.

Safe mode prevents certain software from opening and completes great checks on startup. More information on starting to safe mode and steps to take after starting there can be found here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

If the resolution change continues after the steps from safe mode, create a new user account (administrator) to see if the behavior happens there. This will let us know if it is system-wide or something within your user account: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

Delete a user or group on Mac (to remove the test account once completed)

Let us know what you find.

Cheers!
