Sound routing problems with audio and midi setup since recently updating to Monterey
Hello All,
I recently updated to macOS Monterey, on my iMac 27", intel based.
I use most of the time an external sound card to dispatch audio canals to a set a 4 speakers.
The audio interface is a Komplete audio 6 mk2 from native instruments.
To do so, I use the audio and midi setup app, and select the quadraphonic mode.
While everything was working fine with macOS Big Sur, since I updated to Monterey, the audio routing with Audio and Midi Setup is completely messed up.
While my sound card is selected as default output for all sounds going out of the mac, if I click "Configure speakers", and select the quadraphonic mode, then configure channels correctly, and then click "Apply", nothing happens.
I managed to find a really weird trick to hear sound on the back speakers, and only these 2 ones, by creating an aggregate device, with a sound card that's not even officially supported by Monterey and the Komplete audio 6. And if I play sound on the aggregate device, sound can be heard on the left and right surround speakers, but not on the front speakers. In the aggregate device, only the Komplete audio 6 is actually used as output.
To sum up, any channel routing done in Audio and midi setup does not work properly.
Selecting any other channel than 1-2 will not have any effect (and of course I clicked "Apply" after changes!)
However, the "Test" buttons plays the white noise perfectly loud and clear on any selected channel.
As a musician, I also use daws. For instance, If I use Ableton live, the software is able to dispatch audio to desired channels and speakers correctly.
So I don't think the audio interface is defective. It may be a Monterey problem?
Note I tried to reset the NVRAM, reset SMC, start in safe mode... none of this had any effect on my problem.
If anyone reading this has a though, I'd be happy to get a fix!
Thanks!
