Can you initiate SMS from MacBook Pro?

Hi all, I understand you can set iPhone to forward text messages to MacBook Pro, and then continue conversation from either device. What I'm not clear on is, can you initiate SMS text from MacBook Pro?

I have a 2021 MacBook Pro, and an Android cell phone. I'm considering going back to iPhone, but the answer to this question will be a big deciding factor.

As long as the iPhone is connected/nearby with Text Message Forwarding enabled, you can send an SMS from the Mac. Technically, it is sent by the iPhone.
