iPhone 14 Pro Max restarts

I got my iPhone 14 Pro Max 1TB on 09/16 and last night around 3am EST I noticed my device restarting by itself for the first time, while on its MagSafe charger. I checked settings (analytics) and saw logs indicating the device has restarted 4 times by itself between 3-330am 4 different days. I see many other people seeing the same issue. I am hoping it is software related and not that my device has a hardware defect.

I wanted to ensure Apple is aware of my issue prior to the 14 day return day passes, since others have reported getting multiple replacement devices did not fix the issue. And at this time I will wait to hear more updates prior to requesting a replacement. If I am able I will go to an Apple Store to learn more.

In the end I would expect if it is a hardware issue with my device that Apple will provide a Brand New device to replace my faulty one regardless if the 14 day return window expires.

My new iPhone 14 Pro Max, began restarting early this morning, over and over again. In the middle of using an app, watching a youtube video, checking email, and under many different situations.

I tried all of the suggested fixes, but nothing worked.

I noticed this afternoon that my iPhone indicated that there was an update available for ios 16.0.2. This was strange because I had done the update yesterday.

I tried to do the update several times today, but my iphone would restart after a few minutes and not complete the update.

I reset the network setting; I reset all the settings, but nothing worked.

I erased everything on my iphone, and did a complete restore from a backup of my old iphone 12 Pro Max. Then I downloaded the ios 16.1 Beta 3 update.

Everything has been working great now, no restarts. The only difficulty was having to set up everything again after the restore.

My best guess is that during the attempted install of 16.0.2, my iphone quit without me knowing it. This meant that the update was not completed, a known cause of frequent restarts.

I think that perhaps many people have tried to install the 16.0.1 or 16.0.2 update while charging their iphone and it restarted, rendering the iphone corrupted by an incomplete install.

You might try to erase all content and settings and restore from a backup. This seemed to fix the frequent restarts. Even when charging now, my phone does not restart again as before.

I also think installing the Beta 3 version of ios 16.1 is a help.

UPDATED:

I went ahead and did the reset and right after I erased my device. I downloaded my stuff from iCloud backup where I previously transferred it from my 13 pro max as this was the way I have done it for years but thought maybe something went wrong during the transfer.

My device is on 16.0.2 and I kept the optimize charging off. For two nights now I have not had a problem with restarts.

Good luck
