"Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" and "Can't install" error

Catalina 10.15.7 on Mac Mini late 2012 (dual core I5), IOS 15.7 (iPhone SE g.3)

I get the message when I attach via USB and select install. I get the error "Can't install on..." I had read that there was an IOS update to address this, but I updated to 15.7 and still same thing. Do I need IOS 16 (hope not)? This is keeping me from re-establishing the trust between the two devices, so passwords are not syncing.

My iPhone does not show up in Finder (yes, I have show devices, USB, CD's turned on); however I DO see it in System Information:

 Product ID: 0x12a8

  Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)

  Version: 12.08

... [personal info excluded]

  Speed: Up to 480 Mb/s

  Manufacturer: Apple Inc.

  Location ID: 0x14400000 / 6

  Current Available (mA): 500

  Current Required (mA): 500

  Extra Operating Current (mA): 1600

  Sleep current (mA): 2100

Any ideas how to get the usb connection to work?

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

It appears to be a bug affecting macOS, iOS, or both: Installation failed can't install the software - A software update is required to connect to [iPhone] - Apple Community

Try those suggestions, but we may just have to wait for Apple to address it in a macOS update yet to be released: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support
