Why do I coming calls show at the top of my screen with a very small photo of the co tact and a red and green button instead of a slide

It depends on how you have Notifications set for Phone calls. Go to Settings>Notifications>Phone. What you are seeing is Banner. If you are actively using the phone for something and receive a phone call, it will appear as a banner. If you tap the banner, and not anything in it, it will change to fully page. If you tap the green button, it will remain in banner mode so you could continue working on the device.
It is not a bug, it is working as designed.
