MacBook Air Messages not showing Contact Name

When I receive a text message the notification banner on my MacBook no longer shows the contact name, only the phone number. I do not see a setting anywhere to control the action.

Hi BrianB724,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. We understand contact names don't appear in Messages notifications on your Mac. If you haven't already, make sure the contacts appear in the Contacts app. Add people and companies to Contacts on Mac - Apple Support

If the issue persists, close the Messages app and launch it again. This step can help resolve unexpected app behavior. Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support

Let us know if the results. Be sure to include any other steps that you may have tried.

Cheers!
