iPhone 14 Pro - Wireless Charging not working with slim standard case and standard QI charger

iPhone 14 Pro - Wireless Charging not working with slim standard case and standard QI charger!

I suspect it is a design flaw that iPhone 14 Pro cannot be charged on flat surface chargers (std Qi chargers, cars, furniture etc). I think the charge coil is located next to the large camera bump and that a slim 0.4mm camera case and the camera bump make the gap between charger coil and coil in phone too wide. I hope that this could be resolved with a SW update but I can not risk being stuck with the phone for 2 years on contract so I will return it for now. Note that my 4 wireless chargers worked fine with my iPhone 12 Pro.

It seems as though the camera bump is not allowing it to lay flat and charge. Boo Apple. Now what do we do after we have spent money on wireless charging devices? Shame on you and all the money we spent on a ‘new’ phone that can’t use ‘new’ technology 🥺🥺🥺 will they recall them and give us new ones?

Well, here's what I do. My iPhone 14 Pro Max won't charge wirelessly in my 2019 Mercedes E450. But my car and I'm sure your car does have USB ports built in. So your answer should be quite simple. If you can't use the wireless charger in your car, like many who can't - PLUG your phone into charge if you need to charge it.

You say you don't want to use old fashioned cables? OK. Then don't charge your phone.

Apple cannot solve this issue with the charging mat in your car.

So I buy a car and pay EXTRA for wireless charging as I didn’t want to have a wire trailing everywhere , and also had the whole dash built around the wireless charging to now be told sorry but tough luck. Not good enough

Then complain to the car manufacturer. And you're free to go to Samsung, which for many people has the EXACT same issue. I have a friend and his S22 (or whatever the most current flagship Samsung model is) won't charge on the charging plate in his 2021 modern car.

Ps: as users only here on this user to user only forum, we really don't care what phone you choose for yourself. Buy whatever you think best meets your needs.

I bought an ohsnap snap3 pro... it's thin, magnetic, and with MagSafe. I put it on my case which evened out the level issue with the phone cameras and now my phone charges on the pad in my car. It's like a pop socket but thinner and you can charge through it. Granted, you have to stick it to your case. But, it works for me for now. Not an advertisement but just thought ppl should know in case they too want to try.

Of course it’s partially Apple‘s fault. They keep changing their designs so that you have to buy new accessories every time they change something. So, Apple is not blameless here.

Apple is completely free to design their products however they wish; in fact the applicable specs do not specify the location of the charging coils for just that reason.

You don't have to buy new accessories if they were properly designed in the first place; I had been using a Qi charger that I purchased for use with my iPhone 8 for several years until I decided I wanted a MagSafe puck and bought one.

That means that same Qi charger has worked with the iPhone 8, X, 11 Pro Max, 12 Pro Max, 13 Pro Max and now 14 Pro Max, all of which I've owned and have used it with. (I still carry it when I travel.)

I just prefer the MagSafe pucks.

"You keep stating they are "standard" wireless chargers, when in fact some do not adhere to the standards you claim they do." Like Apple did with .m3u playlist extensions?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M3U

A specified format wherein the path should contain a backslash and Apple Music changed it to a forward slash, rendering playlist export to be used outside their ecosystem useless.

I bring this up because you so adamantly defend the design of the iPhone and the giant bump on the back. Referring to your database, I checked every registered Nissan design, all are licensed (which by the way, only means the license fees have been paid to the consortium, and has nothing to do with the design), and I also have problems with my iPhone 13 and 14 charging on the mat. Place an android phone it that is flat, and it works much more easily. The iPhone just requires rather finicky placement. Another thing, with an android phone you can use the hotspot and wireless android auto. Wireless CarPlay requires using the vehicle's hotspot. There are just different designs. I like iOs, but interoperability and an open experience are not hallmarks of apple. If building a charging system were so simple, we'd have that apple powerstation they announced and then canceled.

The one thing I noticed on my iPhone 14 is that it needs to be unlocked when I place it on my charger. Every time I place it locked it wont charge, but if I unlock it first then place it on the charger it starts immediately to charge. The charging pad is connected to a USB hub hooked to my computer, but as far as I understand, it should not matter since there is no data transfer being made when on a charging pad.
