"Iwork is different from Office. "
Yes it is.
iWork is a group of three applications: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.
These are similar in purpose to MS Word, Excel and Power Point respectively.
What you describe as a "large right column" in Numbers is the Right Sidebar, which may be opened by clicking the Format brush near the right end of the tool bar at the top of the Document window to show the Format Inspector, or by clicking the Arrange button to show the Arrange pane.
As suggested by the name 'Right Sidebar,' these tools, when opened, occupy a fixed position at the right side of the document window, and cannot be moved to a different location.
Similarly, Pages has a Right Sidebar, which can be opened by clicking the Format brush, or by clicking the Document icon.
Like the Sidebar in Numbers, this one opens in a fixed position, and cannot be moved to a different location.

Barry
