I can’t seem to get a decent photo of the moon (or any distant object) at night time. The resulting photo is not much better than the photos from my old iPhone 11 Pro; the object is blurry at best. The photos from my wife’s Google Pixel 6, over a year old, are much better. I tried various different settings without much success. Any suggestions on how I can get a decent picture of the night time moon?

Obviously it depends on what you’re after, but in my opinion that looks too bright. You mentioned that you set the exposure to the max. You could try reducing the exposure to get the sky darker, which will make the moon look like less of a blur.
It could be as simple as your wife having a steadier hand than you. The camera uses a longer exposure when it’s dark.
I tried a lot of various settings without much luck. I was hoping someone here could take a better picture of the moon (or distant object at night) with an iPhone 14 Pro and tell me what settings they used.
I’ll try tonight with mine, but it’s pretty cloudy here, so I might not have much luck.
I’m used to using an SLR and reckon every photo I’ve taken of the moon from a phone camera is absolutely rubbish. That said, I’m yet to try with this one, and the camera is a great improvement on my previous phone – 11 Pro Max.
I’m using a tripod. I’ve tried setting the exposure to the max. Maybe it’s the best the camera can do?
Maybe. I don’t think any phone camera will take (what I consider) a decent photo of the moon, though.
Maybe. I just expected better pictures than from a 1 year old Pixel phone. Oh well, thanks for the replies.
This is the best picture I could get of the moon. It’s actually a crescent moon, but that’s not what the photo shows.
