How do I get my MacBook Pro M2 into recovery/options mode?

Hey guys,

I'm probably being a bit daft, but I can't figure it out and none of the internet answers worked.

I need to get my MacBook Pro M2 into recovery mode so I can enable System Extensions for Nord suite.

I managed it on my MacMini, but the MBP won't seem to do it. It doesn't have a power button so I read that I had to hold the Touch ID

I've tried:

Finger on Touch ID

Command + R

Command, Option + R

Command, Shift, Option + R

So far it just smiles and boots normally.

Please help!

On an M1/M2 Mac with Apple Silicon, you access the special boot options by holding the power button (aka TouchID button) until the special startup menu appears. FYI, the TouchID button is the power button. It is just a power button with extra bio-metric features.

I 100% agree with @leroydouglas about avoiding anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, and third party security software since they usually cause more problems than they solve plus they impact system performance as these types of apps interfere with the normal operation of macOS. If your employer insists you have some sort of anti-virus software on your Mac, then see if they will allow you to use MalwareBytes instead. It is the least intrusive and troublesome anti-virus type app out there.

Third party AntiVirus is not recommended— it typically does nothing but add issues to the macOS and competes directly with Apple’s own built in security:

macOS - Security - Apple macOS - Security - Apple

Apple Platform Security - Apple Apple Platform Security - Apple Support

Thanks HWTech, I'll try that again later.

Do I actually need to press the TouchID? or just hold my finger on it?

With the MacBook Pro M2 that I have, when I shut it down it can be powered back on by pressing any key on the keyboard (or by opening the MacBook if it is closed).

Re:NordSuite - Thanks for the info, I appreciate what you guys are saying and as I am new to Mac it is good to know that.

The particular product (NordLocker) is an encrypted cloud storage solution used by the company to move files around. We work on several platforms (Linux, Windows and MacOS) and trying to get one solution for all has been.... tricky.

We did try iCloud, but it suffered from being too user friendly
