Stop desktop switch when closing a program

Greetings!

I have 3 desktops open on my MacBook where DT1 has an open excel file and DT3 has an open excel file. If I close the excel file on DT1, it will automatically switch to DT3 because there is an open excel file on that desktop. Is there a way to prevent that?

Occasionally things download on a separate desktop window and I am unable to either move them to the main window I am working in or even switch back to that window. I have not discovered any foolproof ways to navigate between other desktop windows. Frankly, I have no use for other desktop windows...can I turn that feature off entirely? Setting to open Numbers files in separate windows, not tabs Is there a setting in Numbers (and probably Pages as well) to always open documents/files in separate windows and not as tabs in the current open document? I have Safari opening in separate windows and Finder windows too. Seems like Numbers/Pages should allow me to do the same thing. I'm on a 2017 iMac running Ventura 13.6.1 and Numbers 13.2. Thanks for the help.

Mac Monterey - multiple files open in single app not showing previes of all files open like in Windows OS Hello all I recently switched over from Windows to Mac on a Macbook Pro mid 2015 model, updated with Monterey OS. In Windows, if I opened multiple files in the same application, in the task bar icon of the application, if I hovered over it, it will show all open files as small previews line up at the bottom. So convenient. Let me make it clear here that it is not multiple instances of the same application. It is multiples files opened in the same application. How do I see this preview on Mac Monterey ? Please help me. Thanks in advance.
