I drive a Peachtree Audio Tube DAC from my iMac with a mini plug optical cable. I did see an iMac spec that showed that capability, but I cannot find any information on the headphone jack in the Mac Studio, and if it is optical cable compatible.
Anyone know?
The specs say that port supports high-impedance headphones and Muti-channel sound -- no mention of alternate optical output, so it does not have that capability built-in.
You could add a USB device or Dock with that capability.
The port on the chassis will convert to electrical Analog. To connect with Digital Optical, you will need to add a USB device that supports direct optical output.
If you are an audiophile, it may be worth buying one to give you that crisp end-to-end digital signal all the way to the final amplifier.
Optical digital output disappeared from all Mac's after 2017.
Like Grant say's, you will need to use a USB optical adapter, DAC or Dock.
There is a USB-B input on the Peachtree amp - the printer type end - would that USB cable solution be as crisp as the USB device?
