Apple Books purchase issue

Hi - 2 problems with Apple Books:

1 - if I try to buy a book it always asks for my Apple ID password. Frustrating, but normally it accepts the password and then lets me purchase the book. However recently:

2 - the purchase seems to be accepted but then it tries to take me to this URL which never resolves: https://finance-app.itunes.apple.com/connecting-client?targetUrl=https%3A%2F%2Ffinance-app.itunes.apple.com%2Faccount%2Fpsd2-auth%3Fsecure3dSessionId%3Df9633829-232a-4e1a-a2f5-9addb49ab8d6%26deviceProfileUrl%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fmr-payments.itunes.apple.com%252Fredirect%252Fv1%252Fsecure3d%252FdeviceProfile%252Ff9633829-232a-4e1a-a2f5-9addb49ab8d6%253Fnonce%253DMjAyMi0xMC0wMVQyMTowMzoxNi4wNzk2NjdaNGI0ODZiOGQtMGJjNy00OTE1LWFhNDgtNjFmMjk3ZTk5YmQ4%26deviceProfileEventOrigin%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fcentinelapi.cardinalcommerce.com%26context%3Dbuy%26hostApp%3DiBooks

I just get the spinning wheel and no further. So I can’t buy books.

Any suggestions for either of these issues?
