my 4k apple tv wont go back a screen when pressing the home button. Have apple done another crap update? The light flashes indicating it is receiving the signal and if i hold the button in for two seconds it goes straight to the app menu screen.

The Home button is not supposed to do that. The Menu button or Back button is for that.
The TV/Home/Control Center button is for going to the Home Screen, or to the TV app (configurable in Settings), and long press for opening Control Center.
