iphone 14 Pro - Front camera blurry in 3rd party apps

Hi...

After approx 10 years I switched from android back to iphone.. and I must say.. extremely disappointed.

anyways, at this point my gripe is with the front camera.. we have an app in the UAE called UAEPass, I am trying to register this app on my new iphone 14 pro using facial recognition, however the picture is sooo blurry using the front camera. The app is not able to register my face because of the significantly low quality and blurriness. I have tried several times even positioned the phone on a shelf to rule out completely the slightest hand shake but equally is bad.

It seems there are many users complaining about the shakiness and blurriness of the camera, but the threads I have read are more so for the back camera. My issue is with the front.. I have upgraded to the latest release from apple which allegedly fixes the blurriness in 3rd party apps however still no difference.

Anyone else facing this issue? is there a solution to this? if not I'll return this phone and go back to my trusted and stable Android.

I can confirm the same issue reported by the OP. I have a 14Pro with iOS 6.0.3 and every 3rd party app I have for scanning barcodes (including Amazon Shopping app) is having issues with focus/zoom/view.

When the barcode is in the optimal scanning distance or about 2" away (compared to iPhone 12 or my Android phone), it is blurry and cannot be decoded by the 14Pro camera. To get the barcode in focus, the phone needs to be about 5-6" away, but at that distance some of the high density codes (QR Code and Datamatrix) cannot be decoded as they are too far.

Please test!

And then please help!

Hello MoPatel1,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about your iPhone camera. We're happy to help by looking into this more!

The following support article provides some troubleshooting steps to try for this behavior: If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working - Apple Support

Remove case, accessory, or film and test
1. Remove any case, accessory, or film that might block the camera or flash or that places a magnet near the camera.
2. Test the camera by trying to take a photo.
3. If the camera still isn't working properly, contact Apple Support to discuss service options.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.

I opened a case directly with Apple and got two responses, over the phone from a support person in the US:

  1. Apple's native camera scanning/focusing works fine so if I have a problem I need to request support from the 3rd party app having this issues. Which I did. The developer confirmed they are aware of this issue but no confirmation of fix.
  2. Apple support told me they would "forward this issue to their engineers". Whatever that means.

3 months later I am using the latest iOS version and the problem persists.

Contact the developer of the app you are having issues with and make sure they are aware. Hopefully they can make progress with Apple.
