My iphone 14 is carrier locked. Does this mean it is not possible to add an additional e-sim while traveling? I am not trying to replace my original sim carrier, just adding an additional international data plan while I am gone.

Unless the 2nd eSIM is from your same carrier, it will not work.
Any multi-SIM phone must be carrier unlocked to use another carrier’s SIM.

Is this phone fully paid off? If it is not they will not unlock it but ask them about any international plans they might have.
Since your iPhone 14 is carrier locked, you can only add additional eSIMs from the same carrier that it is locked to. You have stated that you will be traveling internationally and have the desire to add a foreign eSIM. This can be done but only if your carrier allows it. Contact your carrier and tell them that you will be traveling and would like to use a foreign eSIM while traveling. Most carriers will allow that and unlock your iPhone so that you can do so.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I was afraid of. I have spoken with them on the phone and in store and no one seems to be willing/able to take any additional steps to get it unlocked. I shall try again. Thanks again for taking the time to answer.
