aol rejecting mac mail

The problem with AOL, is their preset email settings no longer work.

http://mail.aol.com/ has preferences allowing you to allow IMAP mail clients to connect to it. Once setup, you can use Mac OS Mail and other email clients to open your email.

AOL does have an AOL Gold application that is paid for if you wish to be within AOL's ecosystem.

Back in the heydays of the internet AOL was a purchased floppy disk to connect to their private dialup bulletin board. It was one of the first to employ a graphical user interface. Once the web got established, it bought the spinoff Netscape to merge its services with the internet. It created its own web browser based on Netscape that included email, contact and other features tied with their own services alone. AOL Gold remained after it discarded Netscape. Although Netscape's last version also had a team that went on to develop Mozilla and its clone web browsers.

Some people found it difficult to lose their dependence on AOL for other things besides email, and stuck with AOL Gold.

Other found it was easier simply to maintain the email and use their own computer's built-in tools to synchronize with the phones etc.
