How do I enter the password for mail on mac?

I deleted one of my email accounts a while back but since then get constant reminders that it is not connecting. I have tried to recreate the password but can not enter it in Internet Accounts of System Preferences. My Mac is on OS version 10.11.6 and is not getting updated. I have fallen foul of Google’s OAuth 2,0 policy. Below is the error message I get when trying to enter the password for mail on mac “Authorisation Error Error 400: invalid_request You can't sign in to this app because it doesn't comply with Google's OAuth 2.0 policy for keeping apps secure. You can let the app developer know that this app doesn't comply with one or more Google validation rules.” What is the fix that will restore my email account and password?

I have the entire mac backed up for the past four years. Which bit do i restore and can I find out the password I was using before the pandemic?

Yahoo App password…

Generate and manage third-party app passwords

Some older, third-party email apps (that do not use our Yahoo branded sign in page) require you to enter a single password for login credentials. To access your Yahoo Mail account on these apps, you'll need to generate and use an app password. An app password is a long, randomly generated code that gives a non-Yahoo app permission to access your Yahoo account. You’ll only need to provide this code once to sign in to your third-party email app.

Most likely biggest factor is using Other in Mail setup, then using a Browser that doesn’t have Yahoo PW stored init to get the App PW.

Using app passwords with apps that don't support two-step verification (microsoft.com)

What about application passwords? Will that keep working?

If application passwords are being used for MFA (Multi Factor Authentication) along with basic auth as another auth mechanism, then when basic authentication is disabled, app passwords used for MFA will stop working too.

Where can I find more information?

Thank you. Your computer is maxed out at El Capitan. I fear my assessment that Google has given up on old macOS versions was correct.

I was going to recommend FireFox Extended Support Release (ESR) version but, on checking, it nowrequires a minimum of macOS 10.12 "Sierra."

You may have to give up on Google and find another mail provider that is less demanding. At minimum, I recommend asking Google if they have any suggestions that do not involve buying a new computer.

Franky, I see the lack of modern web page/browser support the #1 reason for people having to buy new computers.

Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

If it's an IMAP account, delete it in Sys Prefs Internet Accounts then use "Other" instead of gMail choice to add it.

Most likely biggest factor is using Other in Mail setup, then using a Browser that doesn’t have gMail PW stored init to get the App PW.

It might just need an App Password separate from the gMail password…

If possible, upgrade your OS. Some iMacs running OS 10.11 can be upgraded to a higher version in spite of what is "offered."

To start, please find your SUB-MODEL from "About this Mac..." under your Apple menu:

In the example, the SUB-MODEL is (27-inch Mid 2010). Please tell us what you find for your iMac.

Your iMac needs to be Late 2009 to have an upgrade path. Otherwise, you will need to use a different client app or email provider that Google.

Hello guys

I have a problem with redirect_uri: urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob and error 400

First

While communicating via Zoom, I personally saw that in the Safari browser on the Google search page I logged out of my Google account and logged in again, but I didn’t do that.

Then I received three letters at once that my gmail password had been changed and the Mac mail stopped accepting mail on the computer from this google mailbox, while continuing to work with other corporate mailbox and Google mailboxes!

Second

I immediately changed the password to a new one and made sure that I could access my mail and Google Drive through the browser - everything looks like ok. But it didn’t work out to connect mail to my Mac - error 400 and redirect_uri: urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob

A few days later, on my Android phone there were two application shortcuts for my client bank 0_0

I concluded that I was a victim of phishing and completely formatted the computer and rolled back the phone to factory settings.

From phones everything seems to be fine

But with a computer and Google account it didn’t get better, I’m surprised, but when I try to connect mail to my Mac, I again get this error 400 and redirect_uri: urn:ietf:wg:oauth:2.0:oob

I'm working on old Mac Pro on High Sierra 10.13.6

Tell me if my thoughts about phishing are correct and what to do next?

How do I enter the password for mail on mac?
