Yes, dialabrain is technically correct, you do need Thunderbolt 3 to fully use an eGPU, due to Thunderbolt 3's speed and data transfer ability vs Thunderbolt 2......thunderbolt 2 might possibly work, but can't say for certain that it will work 100%, never having owned or used an eGPU.....
