Retrieving Deleted Text Messages:

A. Was iCloud Messages Set Up?:

• If you have Messages enabled with iCloud, then check and see if they reside in there, using another device accosted to iCloud, that has not been associated to the internet yet. That way, nothing has synced. Go Here: Set up Messages on iPhone - Apple Support

B. Any Backup of your iPhone?:

If you backed up your iPhone, then restore them from a backup that contains this message, and is of the same iOS version.

If you updated to iOS 16 thinking that you'd be able to retrieve messages that were deleted when you were using iOS 15, it doesn't work that way..

I'm not entirely sure if that support article you came here from is accurate.. If I delete message and then tap the edit icon, I do not see 'Show Recently Deleted'. But if you tap <Filters in the upper left of the message list, there is a Recently Deleted option there
