My apple pencil 2’s pressure sensitivity is messed up, and my iPad and apple pencil are very new.

Today when I went to draw on procreate, I noticed immediately the pressure sensitivity was off. There’s barely a transition from super small size brush to super large size, and i had to push down slightly harder to get it larger. also, for opacity-related pressure sensitivity, the same can be applied. I’ve tried messing with procreate settings, turning my iPad on and off, disconnecting and reconnecting my pencil, replacing the tip, and updating procreate. Do you think that this is a hardware malfunction? i should also add that- whether this is important or not- there are two cracks on the pencil; one nearly inch long one 3/4 in away from the tip, and a very very small faint one directly opposite to it. I also still have warranty and whatnot. this photo is what it looks like now- it shouldn’t look like this.

As your Pencil exhibits signs of damage, it is more than likely that the relatively fragile transducer (beneath the user-replaceable Pencil tip) has itself suffered damage.

Ordinarily, the Pencil tip should be firmly tightened onto the body of the Pencil; when correctly positioned, there should be a small but consistent gap between the tip and pencil body - of about the thickness of a sheet of paper. Unless the tip is properly positioned in relation to the pencil body and the active transducer, performance will be compromised.

As described, the Pencil is at best compromised - and is unlikely to perform as expected. Beyond replacement of the Pencil itself, seeking alternative remedy is somewhat pointless.

For iPad models with a Home button, do a simple hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake/power button simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.

OR

For much newer design iPad models, without a Home button, try the new simple hard reset procedure for the new 2018/2020/2021 iPad Pros, 2020 iPad Air 4 and 2021 iPad Mini 6 models.

1. Press and release the volume up button.

2. Then immediately press and release the volume down button.

3. Then, press and hold the single sleep/wake/power button You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018 iPad Pro will boot up completely to the iPad Pro’s Lock screen.

Best of Luck to You!
