I just got my series 8 Apple Watch yesterday. It didn't recognize I was taking a walk for about a quarter mile. Then it asked if I wanted to track it, which I did. After I got home and was sitting on the couch, I realized it still thought I was walking for more than 2 minutes. It took me 30 seconds to figure out how to turn the timer off.

I just got my Apple Watch 8, also. When you purchase an Apple device, you normally get an email offering a free, one on one appointment with an Apple specialist. I normally use the new device for a couple weeks, writing down any questions I may have, then schedule my appt. It’s worked out well for me!
I know that I can do that. My point is, it doesn't do a great job of detecting what you're doing on it's own. If I'm sitting on a couch for 2 minutes, I'm clearly not still walking.
Thank you. I saw that email. I'll do that. I'm starting to figure things out that were confusing at first. But I will take advantage of the offer to talk with a specialist.
Turn off start workout reminder and end workout reminder and just start a walking workout manually.
