How do I delete albums of photos that have been streamed to my iPad?

A friend streamed to my iPad an album of over 2000 pictures that I would like to delete. The standard protocol for deleting pictures doesn't work. I do not store anything in the cloud?

Hi Charles Niemi,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

We're a little unclear what you mean by "streamed" in this instance.

However, if the photos are in your Photos app and unable to be deleted, your iPad may have been synced with a computer using either Finder or iTunes.

The only way to remove them would be to sync again with a computer. You can find instructions here: Sync iPad with your computer for both a Mac and a PC.

"Set up syncing between your Mac and iPad

  1. Connect iPad and your computer with a cable.
  2. In the Finder sidebar on your Mac, select your iPad.
  3. Note: To use the Finder to sync content, macOS 10.15 or later is required. With earlier versions of macOS, use iTunes to sync with your Mac.
  4. At the top of the window, click the type of content you want to sync (for example, Movies or Books).
  5. Note: For information about using the Files option, see Transfer files between iPad and your computer.
  6. Select “Sync [content type] onto [device name].”
  7. By default, all items of a content type are synced, but you can choose to sync individual items, such as selected music, movies, books, or calendars.
  8. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each type of content you want to sync, then click Apply.

Your Mac syncs to your iPad whenever you connect them.

To view or change syncing options, select your iPad in the Finder sidebar, then choose from the options at the top of the window.

Before disconnecting your iPad from your Mac, click the Eject button in the Finder sidebar.

See Sync content between your Mac and iPhone or iPad in the macOS User Guide.

Set up syncing between your Windows PC and iPad

  1. Install or update to the latest version of iTunes on your PC.
  2. See the Apple Support article Update to the latest version of iTunes.
  3. Connect iPad and your computer with a cable.
  4. In the iTunes app on your PC, click the iPad button near the top left of the iTunes window.
  5. Select the type of content you want to sync (for example, Movies or Books) in the sidebar on the left.
  6. Note: For information about using the File Sharing option, see Transfer files between iPad and your computer.
  7. Select Sync to turn on syncing for that type of item.
  8. By default, all items of a content type are synced, but you can choose to sync individual items, such as selected music, movies, books, or calendars.
  9. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each type of content you want to include on your iPad, then click Apply.

By default, your Windows PC syncs to your iPad whenever you connect them. You can have iTunes ask you before syncing, and if there are some items you never want sync, you can keep them from being synced. See Sync iTunes content on PC with your devices in the iTunes User Guide for Windows."

If you have further questions, let us know and please provide more details regarding where the pictures are and how they were put on your device.

Have a fantastic day!

Thank you for your reply. I did some further digging and learned that the photos I wanted to delete were shared photos, and not photos that were originated by me. I needed to unsubscribe from the sender, and the photos were removed from all of my devices. I'm old school and find the myriad ways items can be put onto your computer overwhelming. My iCloud account is full of photos, none of which I have put there. Since I have never activated my iCloud account, don't understand why anything is in it. In some respects I really love Apple products. In other respects I really hate them.

Again thanks for the reply. I will keep it for future.
