iPhone won’t unlock with correct password

Hi my boyfriends phone won’t unlock while using the correct passcode. He runs a business and has pictures of his daughter so loosing the data is very critical. We have tried restarting it, plugging it into the computer (would not register), and there haven’t been any new updates on iOS on the phone. We understand the easy answer is to reboot the phone and erase all the information but there must be some way the owner of the iPhone can get it unlocked without erasing all the information. It is very frustrating as he’s been using the correct passcode for years. We also do not live near an apple store but are located in Alberta, Canada.
