Remove Shadows from Annotations in Preview

We see the available options for Preview here: View PDFs and images in Preview on Mac - Apple Support and do not see any options for removing shadows from square. Whether using Preview on macOS Big Sur 11.7, or on macOS Monterey 12.6, I cannot reproduce any shadow effect with lines or other shapes, and there is no Preview Preference or application setting to create shadows or remove them. I have opened a PDF in a third-party PDF Editor and there is no feature to do this either.
