I want to use a gift card to pay for iCloud

I'm an elderly guy unable to transfer the apple gift card into itune to pay for monthly icloud have attempted for over two weeks, loaded Kroger prepaid visa card that was then the amount was transferred to Apple Id cash but still unable to apple id

what is a step by step to use apple gift card that is applied but needs to be used for Icloud additional storage,
