iMovie sees my mini DV cam but import not working anymore

I want to import footage from my miniDV cam but the import cannot be triggered anymore. iMovie does see the Camera (Panasonic NV-GS320). When I select it, the import screen opens. I should be able to trigger the camera to play from there and start the import. However, nothing happens in both cases. I use iMovie 10.3.4 on MacOS 12.6 (Monterey) on my Mac mini M1.

Earlier versions of Monterey this was not a problem. I been importing footage until earlier this year, but am not sure when the issue arises for sure.

Just as a reference, I did test the cam with similar settings on my MacbookPro running on MacOS 11.7 (BigSur). Same version of iMovie. Here the import still works.

Is there a way to fix the DV process or work around the problem?
