My Apple Watch Series 4 just suddenly stopped charging. I’m sure I could replace the battery but the cost is such that I’m just thinking about upgrading to a new Series 8. Is there any trade-in value for my Series 4?

Perhaps, Apple Trade In indicates possibly $55, but in order to be more specific, use the "Select your device to get a trade-in estimate" option.
