Music locking up on iphone 12 pro ios 16.0.2

I use Music on my iPhone 12 Pro (IOS 16.0.2) while on my walks (I do typically 5-7 miles 2-3 times a week). Lately (actually since just before IOS 16 was released), Music just stops working in mid-song and goes quiet. When I look at the Music app, I see that the Library icon has turned red, and the app is unresponsive (screen shot below). What gives? It just quit on my last walk, and the phone shows 71% charge, so that's not the problem. Any advice would be appreciated.
